Art Anthology; paint love

Hello everyone.

 Today I started out a simple project making a keepsake box. 

The base is a Maya Road chipboard box created in the shape of a flower. It has a cut out front with the translucent piece for the cover. I pulled that out and set it aside while painting the box.

I have these wonderful new paints from art anthology in luscious colors and wanted to try them out. First I applied gesso to the project to prepare the surface for paint. 

 I sprayed the outside of the box with these luscious paint sprays from Art Anthology.  I find drying during the process created a pleasing effect. The spray paints are referred to as colorant sprays and I used Glorious, Studio Blue, Patients and Waimea Bay spray colorants. 

I used the Black Leather and Meridian dimensional paints for the top That I simply applied with a brush. They're both from the sorbet line of paints. They have a lovely iridescence along with the dimensional quality. 

After painting and drying the surface I started to apply my embellishments mostly from Prima. I coated the embellishments with gesso and began using the coloration sprays on them. After adding color I wanted to give the focal point a little more bling. For this, I went back to my dimensional gel paints in the sorbet line. The paint I used was Dazzle. It has a gold glitter effect. I know it's hard to see it in the photographs but it does sparkle. I used a chalkboard embellishment for the top from American Crafts. 

I love the marbling effect the multiple sprays create on the box surface.

I am sure someone can find some keepsakes to store in such a box.

While I had the paints out, I decided to do the layout. I wanted to see how the sprays would react on gesso and paper. When the paint is used to spray over a gesso stenciled area, the colors are soft and a pretty pastel.

I also used the sprays on the flowers. Overall I'm well pleased with these new products. Next time I think I will have to pick up some dimensional paint in the tube so I can write my titles.

November Tag 2013 - Chalkboard Holiday cards

Good morning everyone,

I hope you're all doing well on this cold and soon to be snowy Monday morning. Today I am working on the November tag challenge that Tim Holtz does each month. If you'd like to know more about it you can check out his blog here. This month features a chalk technique Tim showed us in CC102 class. If you want to take some wonderful classes, I can tell you Tim will give you what you are looking for. So, I did start with the black tag as Tim had done and I do like that effect.  The chalk works differently on the smooth surface of the tag versus a paper with tooth. Then I started thinking about other colors for the holidays. I found some green linen and blue paper, some specialty paper, and some of Tim's papers I've been hoarding since last Christmas. So here are all the photos so that you can see the dimension and what chalk does on the different surfaces. 

The Christmas Holidays tag on the green card is done on a smooth coated black tag. The green paper is linen and the blue is spectra.

I love how the linen texture picks up the chalk in the pictured above cards. The green paper looks like the old green chalk boards we had when I was young.

The above cards are on navy blue cardstock. Sorry my photos don't show the color better.

I love the papers from Tim's Christmas stack. I just layered them up on the card for a background.

Tim paired up with Stampers Anonymous and Sizzix to make some awesome stamps that have matching dies. These trees are so easy to stamp and cut with one of these sets.

All bundled up

Today I'm working with a wonderful new paper stack from American Crafts Called Bundled Up. 

It's a Christmas pad that has great cut out pages to do your page embellishments or quick cards. 

The line also has page embellishments that contains stitched elements that are so cute and quick to use to pull a page together.

 So let's get started.

I started with a neutral plaid and cut a zig zag border from the page cut-up. I continued to use the cut-ups and additional embellishments from the line to complete the page decorations. 

Another winner are the Thicker alphabet flags that I used for the title. I easily strung these chipboard letter flags onto ribbon to drape across the top of the page. 

I really love the stitched page pieces, epoxy brads and adhesive badges.

Next I made a small canvas for the wall or a gift. I layered the torn papers in a patch pattern and adhered with matt medium. Then to push it into the background, I mixed a bit of white paint with decoupage medium and coated the surface, I then used die cuts from Sizzix to decorate the canvas. I love the Bigz dies because of the number of things you can cut with the steel rule dies. Here I used the star border, twenty five, Christmas tree and Merry and Bright phrase. I highlighted with pitt pens and  gelatos from Faber-Castell. For texture I splashed with acrylic ink and paint pens.

I had a lot of fun exploring with the mixture of mediums to create this canvas. 

I had a tree already cut from the paper pack, so I decided to use it on a card along with some other cut-ups. The picture doesn't show it but I coated the star on the tree with Glossy Accents. The tree die cut is #2 Christmas tree from Sizzix,

Grand Opening Tomorrow

Hi everyone,

I've been in the craft room pulling things together for the demo at Scrapmania tomorrow. Stop out and see us. It will be a lot of fun. I will be working with the new magnetic platform from Sizzix. I have to say I love mine. Stacy just got a shipment into the store and I couldn't wait for Saturday to get mine. I took it home and put it to use right away. What a slick tool. While I have the Vagabond out I will pull out the embossing folders. I'm also loving the Viva Inka Gold products. This is a wax metallic past that is so lovely. Game Piece Canvas

Hi everyone,

I have been working on a dimensional piece for several weeks now. You probably saw it on my work desk last Wednesday when I was getting ready to apply the gesso. It all started with a 12X12 painted  canvas. I used a stencil and applied embossing paste to the surface in a square pattern. Here is the link to the post showing the beginnings. Well I did get it coated and dry.  I have photos of that for you. I actually did two coats of gesso before I was happy.

Once the gesso was applied, I created my picture frame using metallic tape and an embossing folder from Tim Holtz's alterations.

Next came layers of Adirondack spray inks. After the ink was dry I applied embellishments from the Idea-ology line by...you guessed it, Tim Holtz. 

The final touches where the Perfect Pearls Mists. 

It gave the cogs a little metal shimmer.

SUMMER card camp 2

Hello everybody,

Week one of summer card camp 2 is already done. My Sunday will be filled with playing in the studio. This first card is a selection from day five. I chose the color combo from the additional selections for the week. If you are in class you  will know that it's the third one in the group. The colors include orange, magenta, purple and turquoise along with white. So here's the card I did.  This window card is patterned after a card created  by Kristina Werner. I embossed some packaging for the circle window. Next time I think I will use a little thinner material. It was a bit thick for cutting with the thin dies. 

I just got a shipment from Simon Says Stamp and really wanted to use some of my new supplies. They carry an amazing collection of stamps and dies. 

These are K and Company papers I have had for some time. You can use just about anything as long as you follow the color rules in class. 

The packaging really did emboss nicely. Too bad it didn't cut better. I an loving using colors that I normally would not put together. I have so much paper in packs that I thought I would never use, but now I think I will be brave and try combinations that feel abnormal to me when starting a project. Thanks for stopping by.
