Ringing in the New Year.

Happy new year my friends.

I am looking forward to 2016 or 1916 if you are ShiShi. Or was that CeeCee? I had a blast with Heather  and guests at the Kraaft Shaak party. 5 hours of nonstop fun and art.  I will show you the pieces created during the event.

This was a canvas with loads of texture. Then I re-purposed an old calendar into art journal pages pictured below.

ShiShi had a bit if a memory problem after dancing in the streets, so consequently wasn't sure what year we were ringing in.

She also taught an art lesson. You can see her instructions in the page above.

I took a few in progress shots. 

We were playing journaling bingo and prompts were called out for us to follow.

At times it could be thursty work.

Anyway, a load of paint was slung and everyone wanted corn nuts before the night was over.

Pan Pastel Background

Hello everyone,
 Just a quick post to show you some things I am learning working with Pan Pastels. I did a journal page first. I was trying out some products to se how they would react and play with each other.

then I created a canvas while crafting in a Kommunity hangout.

I had used Acrylic Ground for Pastel and then applied a coat of gesso before adding Pan Pastels.

I also used a Donna Downey, Crafters workshop and Hero Arts stencil, Martha Stewart silk screen and FW pearlescent liquid Acrylic.

I am really enjoying working with this new to me medium.

Sisterhood of Traveling Canvases

I started a new adventure with a canvas swap.

The first canvas I received was from Heather, one of the other team leaders. 

All canvases were to be labeled with the owners name and the people who contributed to the finished piece.

Below are pictures of the four canvases I started and sent on their crafty journey.

Here is the canvas I was to work on. 

Each canvas has a log that travels with it so the next participant will know what products were used.

So this is what I did before sending canvas one on its journey. I stenciled the background with several stencil images , paint and gesso. This post is lengthy so please bear with me. We will have a big review some time this summer and everyone in the group will share. 

The second canvas has another layer on it to start. Here is the canvas before and after. these were mailed out March 30th and have another layer before going to their new homes.

And here is the final canvas rotation. This can be tricky because two other people have already put their hands on this canvas. I am just to add the finishing touches. 

So, April 20th the canvas created by my sisters for me arrived. It is absolutely stunning and I will treasure it.

And then, May 4th, the second canvas arrived from Canada. Another treasure from my sisters.

Tools of the Trade

Hey everyone. I spent most of the day in the basement working with paint and stencils. As you know I like my tools and one of these is my apron. I will be packing my journal bag and other tools and heading to Rockford this weekend. I will be attending a stamp show with friends. Some of my favorite vendors will be there. If you're interested in what my bag and apron look like here are the links. I also have my own paint shirt. Here are some of the aprons I created today. I have one more to do yet. I also spent some time working on my journal in the documented life project. I will put that in another post. So I shot a little video of the process just so you can see what goes into this. I didn't really have a notion about what direction I was going when I started. It was more about the play today.

So if you are always getting paint on your clothes, you may want an apron of your own for protection. Thanks for dropping by. ttfn

CC3-Challenge 6-Altered Burlap Panel

Hi blog friends,

I am really pumped about doing this challenge from Linda Ledbetter and crew. I love getting all messy and digging through my supplies to see what I can use to create a piece to meet a challenge. The photo was the first thing that spoke to me. Everything else plays off that focal piece.

My Canvas

Challenge 6 introduces Tim’s Altered Burlap Panel Technique, which you’ll find on page 37 of A Compendium of Curiosities, Vol. #3 (a.k.a “CC3″). I had all kinds of fun with this one, because I was able to get grungy and make it my own: Incorporate memorabilia that’s meaningful to you. I found an old photo of my aunt and uncle in wedding attire. I just wanted to incorporate that photo into my canvas. Please do note that you must use one of Tim’s Burlap Panels in your project in order to link to this challenge. I used a District Market burlap 12X12 canvas.

Everyone is welcome to participate in the CC3C, but you must work from your personal copy of the CC3. We will not be posting technique instructions on our blogs. This out of respect and appreciation for all the work Tim invested in writing the book. If you don’t have a copy, you can order one directly from Tim, who will be glad to autograph it for you! District Market 12X12 Canvas

So I will show you some close up photos of my canvas in different stages of completion. I was able to use some Art Parts and embossing paste from Wendy Vecchi. I absolutely can not say enough about the quality of these products. I was also very happy to find the District Market canvas has a solid backing so you can easily attach things to the canvas without sagging. It was still easy to punch through the panel with an awl to attach brads.

I was also able to use one of Tim's new stencils with the embossing paste. Love it!
