Ornaments

Hello Bloggers,
Today I was playing around with ornaments.
below is a funky steam punk ornament.
below is a grunge board ornament using embossing powder.

I found out you need a coating on the grunge
before adding surface effects. This one is just to grey.
This has white stain added before the blue ink goes on.
a much better color to my way of thinking.

Anyway, I have more ideas for ornaments.
I will go see what else I can come up with this time.

Orna-metal

Hello bloggers,
I hope you are all enjoying your weekend.
I am lucky enough to be the hostess on this month's challenge
on the CC101 FB group site. If you have taken the Creative Chemistry class
then come on over to Facebook and join the group.
We have many wonderful artists in the group and always have room for more.
My challenge to the group this month is altered metal.
Here is a sample of an ornament I made using metal tape.

If you haven't taken any on line classes. I can recommend this one to get you started.
Have a great day! ttfn

Saturday before Scrapfest

So I was up in the wee hours and had taken things to Sherrie's craft sale yesterday which means my workspace was in ruins. Well, you know I can't clean without playing. I also need to pack for Scrapfest. I am going to meet up with some of my buddies and plan on having a blast. I was thinking I should take an apron with me, but I wanted something that was my work. Tim's creative chemistry apron looked like it could stand some color. A couple hours later and a bigger mess than what I started out with and I was happy with the results. ha So what do you think?

Will my friends be able to find me in a crowd? Sure hope so.

I was able to use a lot of my new products.

I am loving the color wash sprays

Then I thought I should add a few embellishments.
I think I will enjoy wearing this to Tim's class.

12 Tags of 2012 - May

Tim Holtz has a fab tag this month and I have had a great time playing with UTEE for this challenge. I love all the pieces that went into this collage. The hangers are part of Tim's newest releases. The scissors are from Studio 490 by Wendy Vecchi and Stampers Anonymous.

The background paper  is craft resist. The tag is coated with tissue paper.

Here is a close up of the detail.

The acrylic tag has craft resist paper behind it.

Glimmer mist and a bit of antique gold embossing.

UTEE coated flowers.
And guess what. Inspiration Emporium is also offering a May Flower challenge so this will be my submission. This was sew much fun! Thanks for stamping by.

Tissue Paper Challenge

Technique 6: Tissue Wrap Collage

Okay, I didn't follow step by step but did my own twist this week. This is a 5X7 piece that I wanted to incorporate the painted flower pot and UTEE coated flowers into. I absolutely fell in love with the look of these mini flowers. I spent several hours just coating all kinds of flowers with UTEE

Linda has given us a fun challenge this week. To participate in CC2C #6, simply create your own work of art using the Tissue Wrap Collage technique on page 38 and link it to the Studio L3  blog. You're good as long as you honor these simple rules:
Follow the technique as it's written in A Compendium of Curiosities, Vol. 2 (adding your own special flair), and clearly state that the technique comes from Tim's book.
Include a link to Studio L3 post in your blog post (or photo description if you're linking from an online photo-sharing site).
Also, please include a link to this week's sponsor, The Funkie Junkie Boutique (http://www.zibbet.com/TheFunkieJunkie).

So for this challenge this is what I created.

May is the month for my youngest daughter's  anniversary. They have been married 10 years this May and are one of the greatest couples I know. I am so proud of their relationship and parenting.

Alright, enough of the proud parent stuff. Here is a close up of the detail. Don't you love the flowers?  Got to LOVE UTEE!!  I used a candle cup painted with crackle paint and coated with stain and glossy accents.  Anyway, I am going to submit this piece for the challenge. Hope you have a crafty week.

Domino Effects (What I do with game pieces)

Some of my Creative Chemistry 1 friends had an interest in stamping on game pieces so I thought I would share some chemistry and show you what it is all about.

These are Dominoes I pre-drilled for stringing later. I need to work on centering. lol

This is a mini journal made from dominoes

not TOO big

It can be strung on a cord or chain

As you can see, dominoes come in many sizes. They come in different colors too. I soak mine in bleach overnight to remove any surface finish. You can use any part of a stamp to stamp on the domino, but turn the stamp up on the table and take the domino to the stamp. Be careful to stamp straight up and down.

You can do a number of different stamping techniques on this surface. Use permanent ink and a synthetic brush, permanent ink pens, or paint pens.Think of dominoes kind of like working on gloss coat paper. The agate and polished stone techniques work well. Be careful when painting. Remember alcohol will push the ink around or lift off images you already stamped. Ready to give it a try?

Compendium of Curiosities 2, Challenge 3

Today, Thursday, the last day of this weeks challenge I finally tried this technique again. I am still working on this one as I am not satisfied yet.

Technique 3: Marbled Stains
A Compendium of Curiosities, Vol. 2, page 46
Sponsored by eclectic Paperie

I love the Studio l3 challenge from Tim Holtz's latest book each week. Everyone did an AMAZING job on the Faux Patina challenge.

As for this week's challenge, it's time to get those Distress Stains and make a little marbled magic. Please open your Compendium 2 to page 46 to see how this is done! I am a bit late with this weeks challenge but gave it a good try. I will try to be ahead of the game next week.

A Cut Above Continues

I am trying to play catch up today. Yesterday was about embossing folders. I have some new ones that I wanted to try from Couture Creations and have two people to create for with life events. So this is what I made.
Couture Creations folder and Tim's clock and banner die
Couture Creations folders are unique. I will try to post more about them later. Then I used the new combo set to create the embossing and stamping on the following card.

Hero And Sizzix set die and stamps
I love these sets and will use them in multiple ways. I hope you made time to create today!

Compendium of Curiosities Volume II

Today was all about playtime.

So it is the second week of challenges from Linda at Studio L3. To participate in CC2C #2, and to be eligible to win Angie's Tim Holtz Messenger Bag, create your own work of art using the Faux Patina technique on page 58, and link it to Studio L3 Blog using the InLinkz button at the bottom of her page. You're in the running as long as you honor these simple rules:

Follow the technique as it's written in A Compendium of Curiosities 2 on page 58 (adding your own special flair, of course!), and clearly state that the technique comes from Tim's book.

Include a link to Studio L3 in your blog post (or photo description if you're linking from an online photo-sharing site)

Out of respect to Tim, please don't post the technique instructions on your blog! Any entries that don't follow this rule will be unlinked.

if you need a book, Tim has them on his site. That said, I had a wonderful time creating elements from Tim's technique.

A variety of color trials

Embossing powder on leaf

Love this technique

I hope you had a playtime this weekend.

Compendium Challenge

Before work I went into the shop to try putting something together for this challenge.Studio L3 and Tim Holtz are sponsoring this challenge. There is an additional challenge on Simon Says Stamp for Lord Tim. Check them out and join the fun.
For this tag, I used a Sizzix die and made my own stamp. I also used a Lifestyle Crafts die and a large scalloped circle punch for the layers. The tags and background are colored using Lord Tim's spritz technique that you can find in either his online class or his books or videos.
I used foam from Hobby Lobby.
And steel rule die to creare custom stamps. Remember you can also cut reverse images by flipping. This is a sample of stamps I was able to create this morning.

Have some fun crafting today!

Paper Play

Hi Bloggers,
Yesterday there was a conversation about coated paper. I decided to do a bit of testing to see what I liked the best. You can see the process of applying the ink on all three samples was about the same.
Hammermill Laser Photo

I used three papers; CTMH, Hammermill laser photo and Judikins gloss coated papers.

 Hammermill
CTMH
CTMH was my second choice.
Judikins had lovely open spaces, depth and color.

Judikins
The favorite from my perspective is the Judikins paper. Can you see the cool speckles in this? It is a very porous paper even with the coating. Love it.
So Bloggers,
You be the judges. Tell me what you think. I think I know which one I will be using.

Foil Resist

Hi bloggers,
Can you see the blue distress shades I used over the foil embossed paper? The foil resists the ink and you can easilly wipe it away. I used a metalic tissue paper under the medallions. Had a bit of trouble because I haven't been cleaning between projects and couldn't find my bone folder. Note to self...clean.

Metal

This morning the basement studio was calling and I had some questions rumbling around in my head. I wasn't sure if I could do similar techniques with foil coated paper that you do with metal. I also had a new embossing folder I wanted to try. The picture isn't that great because of the glare but you can get the idea. I also embossed the metal disk in the center and used alcohol ink to do the distressing. I glued a mirror behind the gear bottom left. That is why it looks strange. Thanks for stopping by.
