End of Compendium-or is this the Beginning

Linda Ledbetter over at Studio L3 blog, has posted the final challenge to the compendium of curiosities and it is a birthday card for Tim Holtz. We have been working from Tim's books and I hope there is a book three in the making. Tim has shared so much knowledge about paper crafting with us. I hope you have his books at home too.

Today I was also inspired by another crafter from across the pond. Kaz Hall over at The Little Shabby Shed does some amazing work and posted a great tutorial today. be sure to go watch it.  I have posted a video for you too. it shows another version of creating backgrounds that was inspired by Kaz.

So here is the card I made using the marble background I created and some of Tim's goodies. If you want to know how to make the paper, watch the video.  I used Denim, Peeled Paint, Eggplant and Spiced Marmalade inks for the background. Happy Birthday Tim. I hope it is as special as you are.

Working on Techniques

Today is about getting ready for tomorrow and the rest of the week. I need to keep up with my friends over on the Altered Art Dictionary FB group. Thought I would get in the Halloween spirit there. If you have a dictionary you would like to alter, please come join us. Just send a friend request to join the group.

I used distress inks on the background. The stamps are from Stampers Anonymous, and Penny Black.

I used a Sakura gelly roll pen to add highlights to the webs and spidys.

I also wanted to work with these awesome glassine  envelopes using this suede technique from Tim Holtz. I love the way it really makes the papers soft like leather.

I don't think the picture can show the rich texture, but try this fo your self and see what I am talking about.

Compendium of Curiosities II-Configurations

Linda at Studio l3 has a special challenge going on this week. It is all about Tim Holt's configurations from his Compendium of Curiosities II book. I have wanted to do one of these for a long time, but this is a fairly heafty project the can eat time. I wanted to make this for a friend who loves the beach so much she wallpapered her bathroom wall to look like the beach. Now that takes a stand!

It was a lot of fun collecting the elements to add to the little nooks.

so here is the completed piece. It is a bit hard to see because there is a plastic cover that will keep it clean, but reflects light.

We have a two part challenge this week at Studio L3. Want to see where I am starting? Get this...it is a Tim configurations project. Yippee! I love tags, but this is so cool.

I am just giving you a sneak peak. This one will take some time.

Then over at Simon Says Stamp blog we are turning to the patriotic theme.

Tissue Wrap Flower

The topic of the week appears to be tissue. Tissue tape, honeycomb tissue, wrapping paper whatever you have can all be used to create embellishments. My grandchild is turning six and I wanted something cheery for a card. I found I had this honeypop tissue in rainbow colors.

Okay, I didn't follow step by step but did my own twist this week. This is a 5X7 piece that I wanted to incorporate the painted flower pot and UTEE coated flowers into. I absolutely fell in love with the look of these mini flowers. I spent several hours just coating all kinds of flowers with UTEE.

So for this challenge this is what I created.

May is the month for my youngest daughter's  anniversary. They have been married 10 years this May and are one of the greatest couples I know. I am so proud of their relationship and parenting.

Alright, enough of the proud parent stuff. Here is a close up of the detail. Don't you love the flowers?  Got to LOVE UTEE!!  I used a candle cup painted with crackle paint and coated with stain and glossy accents.  Anyway, I am going to submit this piece for the challenge.
