Sparks and Sparkle KSDT2015 October Fun

Hello all

Time for a new Saturday Spark of Kreativity at the Shaak.

I love this time of year even if it is the advent to winter and all that come with the snow and ice. The trees are turning and it is apple picking season. The pumpkins are ripe and ready for carving. Soon the little gremlins will be heading out with their treat bags and costumes. We always enjoy seeing the neighborhood kids all excited and having fun.So to help with the celebrations I decided to make a decoration for my door to greet the trick-o-treat-ers. 

I started off with a chipboard piece from the back of a paper pack. These are great to recycle. I don't recommend using these for archival pieces because it contains acid, but it is great for seasonal decor.  I sketched out several shapes (boot, stocking, buckle, bat) and cut them out of the chipboard. I then coated the pieces front and back with black gesso.

Don't you just love glitter??? Remember the Kraaft Shaak has some great glitters to pick from in the store.

Once the shoe/boot was complete, I turned my attention to the wreath it was to decorate. 

I used an 18" frame from the craft store, decorative ribbon. lights, craft picks and wire to create a base for the decorations.

I wired and hot glued everything together.

I added a few sparkly foam letters in Halloween themed words and called it good.

Spark some creativity Saturday @ the Kraaft Shaak

Hello and happy Saturday, 

Today is bittersweet. It is my last official post as a design team member for the Kraaft Shaak and yet I am planning future posts to share with the community. If you don't know what I'm talking about be sure and check out the Kraaft Shaak.com and the Kraafters Kommunity on Google plus. This month I was tasked with the challenge of killing the kit. I don't like the phrase but you get the drift. I think I will deploy the kit. lol The kit is designed by Heather at the Shaak and has so much to pick from so you can create loads of crafty goodness. Remember the roosters, back to school and easel? They were all made using the kit.

Because it's fall and the weather is changing I guess I am in the fall color mood. If you are like me, you love the golden hues, orange, red, violet and green the season shares. I started with a large letter P from the craft store. It was in the clearance area and just said take me home. I had some fun papers and fabric left in the stash from the kit. Using gel medium I attached some of those to the surface. I then knocked everything back with a coat of white gesso. You can see a process video here.
There were some really cool metal embellishments in the kit that I incorporated into the groupings of Prima flowers. I found a frame from the dollar bin that I altered using products from the Kraaft Shaak. I decided to add some of my Gelli printed tape to the background of the frame to help it pop. I just continued to add flowers, pearls, bling and pebbles to finish out the composition. The last thing I did that did not get video taped was to apply Inkagold to the raised surfaces. Spark some Kreativity Saturday @ the Kraaft Shaak

Hello,

Peter Pan I am not, but I am still puffed up like the rooster I am working with on this project. You ask why? Okay I will tell you. I am working with an awesome design team and want to crow about it. Today I wanted to show you something else I was able to make with my mixed media kit from the Kraaft Shaak.

Mini is watching my every move.

I started with a pre-cut plaque from the craft store.

After a few coats of gesso I applied the crackle paint remaining from the sample in the kit and left it to dry overnight.

Next, I coated the paint with several shades of glaze. Then came those great rooster napkins from the Kraaft Shaak Mixed Media kit.  I separated the three ply and use the printed portion that has 6 roosters.

Isn't he pretty? Quite The handsome fellow.

After trimming the image out, I applied it to the plaque with a coat or two of matte medium.

I used another piece of napkin to create a flower center for some metal components from the kit. If you make this, I would recommend applying the image to some white cardstock before gluing into the bezel. The tissue tends to disappear with the gloss coatings. That's alright because, one thing I learned after years of crafting is you can usually put another layer on top.

I used the Magicals pigment powders and Colorbloom sprays on the fibers and cheese cloth supplied in the kit to add and enrich colors.

I glued all of the pieces down with 3D gel medium. This supplied enough lift under the components to raise the layers just a bit.

I used the rest of the die cut leaves made for the easel project from yesterday, the colored fibers and metal embellishments supplied in the kit. I glued the flower to a metal bezel and coated with Glossy Accents and set it aside to dry. Then I added some Prima flowers 

and other embellishments to adorn the bottom of the plaque.

The flowers needed a bit if shimmer so I sprayed them with Guild Colorbloom.

Okay I have used a few of these cool roosters, but still have more to go. I am really having a blast trying to use all of this kit up and I am sure you will see me just keep going until it is all gone. If you want a kit you will find it here. I hope you enjoyed my play.

Today is my first day sharing with you as a design team member for the Kraaft Shaak. It is my honor and privilege to be chosen for this amazing team.  I received this wonderful mixed media kit which Heather sells at the Kraaft Shaak and have been having a ton of fun playing with it. I can't imagine all the things I can make with what's inside the box. If you'd like to preview a box I have a video here. So let's get started, shall we?

My first project is this cute easel blackboard/corkboard. I had a good time applying all of the products to this. First I had to mask off the cork and blackboard.
 Then I painted it with a coat of gesso. After the second coat of gesso, I applied the chalkboard paint in a golden green. Then came the crackle paste which takes about five hours to dry.

Just be prepared to be patient. Once dry I applied some glazing medium, taupe and cobalt green.

After those were dry I used some archival ink's in the colors of watering can and coneflower to accentuate the crackle. Everything is then coated with matte gel to seal in the crackle coat.
 I then created the flowers and embellishments. If you'd like to know how to make those I have a video here.

For the leaves and vines I cut watercolor paper I had painted with Magicals using a die. The florals  are applied with heavy gel medium. I added Color Bloom spray ink in Tea-stain, Soft Teal and Summer Sky to the flowers for some shimmer. The flowers are on 120 lb watercolor paper.

Mini Me at the Kraaft Shaak

Hello all,

Today I got to hang out with some of my fellow crafters on Google plus and play with the new mini me kit that is available from the Kraaft Shaak. As part of the design team we were each to design a mini me so Heather could have her design team close at hand. 

I love metal, gears and all things steam punk. You couldn't tell by just looking at me could you. lol Anyway I have a few process still photos to share. I primed the pieces with gesso, and painted with silver paint. I embossed some metal duct tape and applied it to the wooden pieces. I colored the beades using a silver paint pen. I coated the beads with Glossy accents and set them aside to dry.

And here are a few close-ups. Beads, wires, buttons and metal adorn my crown or hair however you see it. I love working with sculptural elements and creating a completed piece like this.

DT Kall at the Kraaft Shaak

Hello everyone,

Today I decided to get really covered in product and create something for the Kraaft Shack design team Kall. So I kind of shot some video while I was doing the process. I scared the pants off myself because the camera fell right off the rack. Literally! I had a light go out for no apparent reason. I think the gremlins are still here.
