Challenge 1 - CC3 - Paint Marbling

Hello gentle readers,

I am so excited that the compendium challenge has begun again. Just in case you don't know what I'm talking about you can read all about it here. Linda Ledbetter and her crew have put together a wonderful challenge for all of the compendium of curiosity readers.
This is the third book in Tim Holtzs' series of books, Compendium of Curiosities. This'll be so much fun because there's a whole crew of artists contributing to this particular event. I hope you can join in.

In addition to all of the inspiration, there are some wonderful sponsors involved. Inspiration Emporium and Funky Junky Boutique along with Tim and Mario are going to have goodies for some lucky winners with every new challenge for those entering this challenge. So grab your book and get started creating. There are also some discounts going on so you'll probably want to check it out and get your shopping done while supplies last. I had ordered a copy of the book from Tim sometime ago and he kindly sent me the autographed copy that I've been perusing since then.
This first challenge is all about paint marbling. The instructions for doing this are found on page 43 in Tim's new compendium book. Out of respect for Tim I cannot tell you about the marbleizing process but I will tell you about the other things that I did to create this piece.
To start, I used a frame from the dollar bins and coated it with gesso and let dry.
I used Tim's paint marbling technique on both the frame and the background paper.
Using some watered down black gesso, I toned down the frame colors. I fussy cut Tim's newest papers, Wallflower, into components.  Using a distress sponge tool I distressed the edges of the pieces using vintage photo ink.
The components are glued in place and then chitchat words are added. I coated silk flowers in UTEE, colored the resin bird and branch with paints and inks and adhered them to the frame. The finishing touch was using a gold paint dauber  to highlight the edges of the frame and flowers.

I hope you like my creation and decide to create something of your own. If you do, be sure to go to the Studio L3 blog and post what you  have done, visit the other inspirational sites and leave a comment. I will be watching to see what you make. Ttfn
